30/11/1943 – Mining in the Baltic Sea
Four aircraft were detailed to carry out the above operations with mines of 1,500lbs., which were dropped, successfully, in the allotted area, and the parachutes were seen to open . No opposition of any kind was encountered. There was 8/10ths cloud in the mining area although visibility was fairly good. Navigation was very good.

16/12/1943 – Attack against a Special Target
Eight aircraft were detailed to carry out the above operation with bombs of 500lbs. Two aircraft crashed whilst taking off and one returned early. The remaining aircraft successfully dropped their bombs in the target area. This was a good concentrated attack and many large bomb bursts were observed. No opposition of any kind was encountered. The weather on route was good and visibility was clear except for slight ground haze. Navigation was very good.

06/01/1944 – Mining in the Gironde Estuary
Eight aircraft were detailed to carry out the above operation with mines of 1,500 lbs., which were dropped in the allotted area. This was a successful and uneventful operation, some A.A. Fire was encountered but no aircraft received any damage. A few enemy aircraft were seen, and one short combat took place and the enemy aircraft was claimed as damaged. The weather was good with no cloud and visibility was perfect. Navigation was excellent.

28/01/1944 – Mining in the Kiel Bay
Nineteen aircraft were detailed to carry out the above operation with mines of 1,500 lbs. Three aircraft returned early, two dropped their mines in alternative areas, but the remainder successfully dropped their mines in the allotted area. Some light and heavy A.A. fire was encountered, and one aircraft received slight damage. A few enemy aircraft were seen and the aircraft captained by P/O C. BAKER, whilst on the homeward journey was attacked by a M.E.110, which raked our aircraft with machine gun and cannon fire, from the tailplane to the Navigator’s compartment, causing considerable damage. The mid-upper gunner, Sgt. RENWICK, H. was slightly injured and the Flight Engineer Sgt. WATSON, W. was seriously injured. On return the aircraft crash-landed at COLTISHALL. The weather was variable with 5-10/10ths cloud, but fairly clear in the mining area. Severe icing was encountered on the return journey. Navigation was very good.

11/02/1944 – Mining off Mouth of River Ardour
Of the nine aircraft which were laying mines of 1500 lbs off the mouth of the river ADOUR, all but one did so though it meant flying down through very bad icing cloud and in these conditions one jettisoned to lighten the load.

13/03/1944 – Mining off Lorient
Sixteen aircraft were detailed for mine laying off St. Nazaire, Lorient, La Rochelle, and Brest. One aircraft (Captain NZ414567 F/Sgt. Rowberry T.) failed to return. Another aircraft (Captain NZ42999 P/O. C. Baker) returned early with aileron trouble and crashed at Castle Comb, without injury to the crew although the aircraft was burnt out. The remaining fourteen successfully laid their mines, one aircraft landing at Woodbridge on return.

15/03/1944 – Special Operations – March Moon Period BOB 54 (SUCCESSFUL)
Operation BOB 54 (Successful on alternative BOB 149). The m/n crew in Stirling III JN ‘M’ took off at 23.45 hrs. The alternative target area was reached at 02.30 hours being identified by an open field with woods around and a large white farm house. Fifteen containers were then dropped from 350′ at 03.43 hrs. Valley mists were forming, but otherwise the weather was good. Course was set for Base at 03.43 hours. Two packages of leaflets were dropped at Chatillon. The aircraft, without further incident, landed at Base at 06.15 hours.
