Bombing Attacks on KASSEL, targets F.19, M.454.
Of the nine Wellington aircraft taking part in the above operation from this unit, one CB.661 (F/O. Coleman) failed to return, and Squadron thus suffered its third loss since operations began. CB.668 returned to base after being out for 21/2 hours due to electrical trouble. In addition to bomb load, each aircraft carried 5 bundles of Nickels, as ordered. Targets in some instances could not be located, but suitable targets attacked instead. CB.655 on target F.19 reports, that explosions in fires lit up aircraft 7,000 feet above target. Majority of results not observed due to cloud. Cold frost met on reaching English coast on return and heavy rain and low cloud. Navigation by D/R, visual fixes and homing bearings.
