Owing to a fairly heavy cloud in target area results could not be observed. A.A. fire was slight, and although a number of enemy aircraft were observed, no attacks were made.

Eight Wellington aircraft of this Unit were detailed to carry out the above attacks. A bomb load of 4000lbs; 30 lbs incend; and 4lb. incend; was dropped in the target area. Where bursts were seen. A.A. fire was slight and searchlights were not very active. No enemy aircraft were encountered. Navigation was by DR. TR.1335, pinpointing. The weather was fairly good for this operation.

One of our aircraft, X.3664 captained by Pilot Officer Wilson was chased by an enemy fighter. The weather was fairly good, there being cloud over North Sea but target area was clear. Navigation was by astro, D/R, TR and loop.

Mines were sown successfully and bombs were dropped on shipping in the vicinity. Inaccurate flak and flak ships was encountered. The weather was fine throughout the whole journey.

One Wellington aircraft of this Unit was detailed to carry out the above attack. The operation was not completed, however, owing to bad weather conditions. The aircraft crashed on landing at base owing to the pilot, F/SGT. Summers, being unable to see the ground properly. No member of the crew were injured.

A.A. fire was slight but not effective, while searchlights, though numerous, were not accurate. One enemy aircraft was seen but no attack was made. The weather was fine though there was a heavy ground haze in target area. Navigation was by TR, D/R, Loop, astro.

OPERATIONS. BOMBING ATTACKS AGAINST COLOGNE.
Twenty –three Wellington aircraft, including IA, IC and III, were detailed from this Unit to carry out the above attacks. One of these aircraft, Wellington IA T.2894 captained by P/O. Johnson (attached to this unit from C.G.S. Sutton Bridge) failed to return to base. The bomb load carried consisted of 4000 lbs; 100lbs; 500lbs; 30lbs, and 4 lbs incendiaries. Another aircraft, X.3751 captained by P/O. Jarman. Was badly damaged by flak, both fuel tanks being holed and both port and starboard airspeed indicators rendered unserviceable. The operation was a complete success, bombs being dropped and many fires started in all parts of the town. A.A. fire was very erratic and searchlights were working in cones. A large number of enemy aircraft were seen but no attacks resulted. The weather was excellent, there being no cloud and good visibility. Navigation was by D/R., TR, Q.D.M., Loop.

One aircraft of this Unit was detailed to carry out the above attack. Four 500lbs bombs were carried and dropped in the target area., but owing to ten-tenths cloud results were not observed and reconnaissance could not be carried out.
